Well hello there!!! It’s been a little while since my last post…I have been slacking. So, I’m back to fill you guys in on what’s been going on with me. It will be spread over a few posts and this is the first.
My unemployment is running out soon, so I decided to start applying for jobs. I recently took an exam for Human Service Specialist 1 (case worker) for the State of New Jersey. The test is 65 questions and you have 2 hours and 25 minutes to complete it.
I was a little nervous at first, but it was really easy for me. I finished the exam in 40 minutes. The instructor looked at me like I was retarded when I gave her my exam, and that made me second guess myself. But then I thought, “who is this bitch to look at me like that and make me feel uncomfortable for finishing early! She doesn’t know me or my skills or what I’m capable of!” So, I looked at her like she was retarded and handed it to her anyway.
I just received my results in the mail last Wednesday. I scored a 94!! 165 people took the exam and I had the HIGHEST score! But because people who work there already took the exam, they were placed higher on the list than me. Veterans were also placed higher than me even though they didn’t even score an 80! Because of that, I placed at #13. So technically, my score really didn’t matter. I could have scored 100 and still be screwed over.
I’m pissed about it, but I’m not going to let it ruin my spirits as far as job hunting. Has it discouraged me from paying another $25 to take a state exam for a job? Yes! I will never do it again because they screw you over in more ways than one. It is what is though. I have plenty of work experience and education and I’m sure there is a company out there who would be happy to employ me.
Until next time ツ
